One common reason families move to a new home is to accommodate a job. For marines in the south, that job is, more often than not, at MCB Camp Lejeune. Camp Lejeune is located near the town of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and is surrounded by a number of small towns in the Jacksonville metropolitan area. While some families and individuals drawn to the area by the Marine Corps choose to live on base, others seek housing off base to try and separate their daily life from the Marine Corps.

About Sneads Ferry

Sneads Ferry is one of the small towns that many families choose to live in, and Coldwell Banker Alliance Group has a history of finding wonderful housing there. It is the second largest town in Onslow behind Jacksonville and has experienced rapid growth in the last 14 years. In 2000, Sneads Ferry was a small fishing village with a population of just over 5,400, and by 2014 that population had almost doubled.

The proximity of Camp Lejeune and the easy access provided by new gates off of local highways has been one of the factors leading to the growth, and the town's population now stands at an estimated 9,750 people. The growth is expected to continue over the next several years.

Sneads Ferry History

Sneads Ferry has its roots in an actual ferry that ran across the New River from 1728 until 1939, when it was replaced by a bridge. The ferry was established by a man name Edmund Ennet, and roughly 30 years later a second ferry joined the first, anchored on the north shore and operated by Robert Snead. A community began to form on the banks of the river near where the ferry operated and eventually became known as Sneads Ferry.

Sneads Ferry Activities

Sneads Ferry has grown from a small river trading village to a vibrant community with many of its residents taking government jobs supporting Camp Lejeune. There are numerous activities that are enjoyed at Sneads Ferry. A few are listed here:

  • Bingo Night
  • Community Theater Production
  • Karaoke at Ricks Restaurant
  • A variety of water sports

In addition to the community activities, Sneads Ferry has a host of festivals that occur throughout the year, with the biggest being the Shrimp Festival in August. This is a multipart festival, with a pageant in June and a ball and parade. This flurry of activity and the town's impressive growth make Sneads Ferry Real Estate a popular choice.
